Experiments in Rest

Performance, 2022/ London

Four women sit embroidering on an endless piece of fabric, trying to work out how to rest. This work is a multi-disciplinary approach to live art with the use of personal testimony, immersive sound design, choreography, live video and projection. Watch four individuals resist their restlessness with a shared task, our 50-minute performance is a tale of friendship, anxiety and the uncomfortable parts of learning how to stop. Stitching ourselves back together towards a sense of stillness whilst questioning the process to get to this point, and those that came before.

Experiments in Rest was made in the summer of 2022 as four women met during their time at Goldsmiths University on the performance making MA and bonded over their curiosity of craft based, durational work that interrogates feminist themes, themes of self-optimization, burn out, vulnerability and rest, through an autobiographical, social and at times scientific lense.
