Folds (Workshop)

artistic research-workshop, 2019/Weimar

Falten werfen was a 10-day workshop  in artistc research on the theme of drapery/textile folds for an interdisciplinary group of students..

Textiles are omnipresent, veiling and unveiling essential components of our cultural life. Textile: an interwoven, knotted something, always exists in relation to the space surrounding it. Fabric can lie flat on the floor or crumpled up in the corner. Fabric can protect, decorate and cover. Textile exists in a constant ambiguity: it covers what is not meant to be seen and marks what lies underneath/behind it, delineates forms, allows  to be guessed at but never fully comprehended.

The workshop was designed as a constant workflow of producing experiments in changing collaborative group settings, alternating with moderated feedback sessions. The work is to be understood as a translation of the metaphorical fold, which can only emerge in movement and collaboration.

In collaboration with Tom Luc, supported by the German National Academic Foundation
